Serena Wang invited to play with Vancouver Symphony Orchestra for the Chinese New Year Gala Concert
February 8th 2014 sees a new year gala concert featuring Wang Jian playing the cello, Wen Wei playing the violin, each in collaboration with Vancouver Symphony Orchestra under the baton of maestro Yu Long.
Chinese New Year Concert will start at 19:30 at the Orpheum Theater in the city of Vancouver, the repertoire for this concert will be Spring Festival Overture, Butterfly¨s Love(violin concerto) and Resurrection by Tang Dun.
Yulong invited to conduct the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra is well known back home in China, who once was the chief conductor of China Central Opera House and later he founded China Philharmonic Orchestra and works until today as its only artistic director and chief conductor. Yu Long at the same time also works as artistic director of Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra. The world known Chinese cellist Wang Jian was invited to play quite a few master pieces from the classical music repertory.
Wen Wei, who will play the violin concerto Butterfly Love, is a violinist graduated from Julliard School and winner at Sibelius International Violin Competition and Pablo Sarasate International Violin Competition. Wen Wei now teaches as a violin professor at Sichuan Conservatory of Music. Wen Wei was invited before by Canadian government to five recital at the Winter Olympic Games in 2010.
What¨s special for the 2014 Chinese New Year Concert in Vancouver is the eight year old Chinese piano prodigy Serena Wang who is already well known back home in China and in her younger years, she already won prize at the Back piano completion at Berkeley university in the USA.
